Countertop Installation
A countertop is templated after the cabinets are in and level, never before. A template taken off a drawing produces a top that does not fit, and stone is not adjustable once it is cut.
How countertops actually get fitted
The cabinets go in and get levelled. A templater comes and measures the real installed run, including the wall that is not quite straight. The top is cut to that template, then delivered and set.
That gap between installation and delivery is when you have no worktop and no sink. We tell you when it starts so you can set up somewhere else in the house first.
- Templated on site off installed cabinets
- Quartz, granite, solid surface and laminate
- Sink and faucet cutouts, drainage grooves and edge profile agreed before cutting
- Seams placed where they are least visible, agreed with you first
- Old tops removed and taken away
Choosing a material by how you cook
Quartz is consistent, needs no sealing and does not like a hot pan straight off the burner. Granite takes heat and varies slab to slab, so you should see the actual slab rather than a sample. Both outlast the kitchen around them.
Pick for how the room gets used. A household that bakes wants a different surface from one that mostly reheats.
See the slab
Stone is a natural material and no two slabs match. The piece in the yard is what ends up in your kitchen, so it is worth going to look at it before it is cut.
